The Man Oscars

It has been sometime since I last considered my list. Since it is a popular hit on my blog (people would rather look at pictures of pretty men than read the crap I come out with apparently), I thought I would have another look. I am changing things up though and this time I am picking winners in five different categories. Oh and I will also mention the runners-up so you know how hard it was to make my choice! I have spent WAY too much time on this. Also, I found it really hard to find pics which truly showed off the awesomeness of the guys I chose. I like to think this is because I like them for their 3-D versions more than just their pretty looks. Or it could be because I am one plane ticket away from being a professional stalker.

Best on TV (past):
Michael Vartan as Agent Vaughn (Alias)

For all the wrinkle-brow concern.  For the shoot-em-beat-em holster-wearing goodness.  For coming back from the dead, simply because we demanded it.  And don’t even get me started on when he speaks his mother tongue.

Runners up:

Bradley Cooper as Will Tippin (Alias)
Michael Weatherly as Logan Cale (Dark Angel)
David Boreanaz as Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel)
Bryan Greenberg as Jake Jagielski (One Tree Hill)

Best on TV (present):
John Krasinski as Jim Halpert (The Office, An American Workplace)

Sure, he doesn’t have the Davidoff beach bod of Sawyer or the grufty ruggedness of Jack but the Lost boys lose out to John everytime.  We really mean it when we say sense of humour is important.

Josh Holloway as Sawyer/James Ford (Lost)
Matthew Fox as Jack Shephard (Lost)
David Boreanaz as Seeley Booth (Bones)
Zachary Levi as Chuck (Chuck)

Best in Music:
Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)

No-one comes close in this category.  He is ultra-talented, the essence of cool and as I keep telling my husband, I just wish he were our friend.  His voice is yum.

Runners up:

Chris Cornell (Soundgarden / Audioslave)
Justin Timberlake

Best in Film:
Christian Bale

A shameful omission from my previous list and the only Brit in attendance, Christian is hot and deep.  Very talented and also plays a superhero.  I do have a thing for Superheroes.  Don’t tell the feminist inside me.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
Josh Lucas
Johnny Depp
Brandon Routh

And in the They Haven’t Made The Cut But They Are Really Rather Charming category:

Joshua Jackson
Matthew Settle
Lee Pace
James Denton
James Tupper
Hugh Jackman (as Wolverine!)
Tom Welling
Karl Urban
Ryan Egghold
Danny Masterson (in That 70s Show – it’s the sideburns!)

And finally, Best in real life (Lifetime Achievement Award):

Ricardo. No Runners- Up.

Angel vs Spike

12 11 2007

I am really enjoying watching Angel Season 5 again.  The Angel / Spike dynamic really made this season and the most recent episode I watched, Damaged, also had a favourite Buffy Alum, Tom Lenk as the hilarious Andrew: the upgraded version!

I also just watch David Boreanaz’s dictorial debut and listened to the commentary (I am a bit of a commentary geek – I can’t get enough of them!).

Bones Season 3 premiered on Sky last night AT LAST so I can get my Booth and Brennan fix on a weekly basis once again without having to trawl YouTube for inferior quality video.

Being sucked in

24 07 2007

I stumbled across an episode of Dawson’s Creek on Five US on Sunday when I was stuck inside on my own. Despite the fact that this was season 2 (and therefore Dawson and Joey are together which makes me want to vomit), I could feel the icy cold grasp of this show dragging me in. I am fighting the urge to watch it through from the beginning (again). I have Buffy in my DVD right now and was planning on starting that over from the first episode but I have been distracted by Pacey. I must be strong.

I caught up on some TV this evening: Dirt is still quite promising as a show that will never have me hooked but is diverting and entertaining. NCIS is in a similar vain but less shocking and more relaxing to watch.

I also watched the first episode of season 6 of Smallville which has finally come to E4. I have seen some episodes/parts of episodes on YouTube so I will definitely give this season a go despite me losing interest for season 5. I feel that it should be wrong to think that Tom Welling is hot…how old is that boy? (OK so he is older than my husband and only one year younger than me! In that case he definitely is hot!). I so have a super hero complex.

Fonejacker is a show I am loving right now – basically you have one guy who makes crank calls in all different characters and that coupled with the humorous images that go with the audio make for FUNNEEEE tv.  The character Terry Tibbs is my favourite:

I have finished Angel season 2 now and I really enjoyed it after all. I forgot quite how much happened in that season. Dark Angel (the moody man, not the kick ass show) was a bit of a bore but it did mean he boned Darla which was interesting (in that he kept his soul) if a little gross (in that it will produce Connor – the worst thing to happen to AtS).

I have not yet watched last night’s Dexter which I am really looking forward to along with catching up on Big Brother (although I am losing interest the longer that stupid cow Charley is in the house – I really cannot stand to watch her anymore). Tomorrow night will bring another episode of What About Brian (still digging this Thirtysomething for the Noughtys) and NCIS (season 4). There are just not enough hours in the day.

Oh and wish me luck with that Dawson’s thing… I must be strong. I must resist.

Mutant Enemy

4 07 2007

It’s been a while, I know, but I am thinking I will start writing on this blog again.  My love for TV has never wavered, you will be pleased to learn and I have been watching plenty so should have lots to talk about.

I recently discovered Dark Angel (why do I always get really into these programmes AFTER they have been cancelled!?).  The SciFi Channel has just finished showing the whole series.  There are flaws in it, to be sure, but I am a sucker for a sci-fi heroine and the show had a good mix of romance and action.  HOWEVER.  Why on earth did they continue with the whole ‘Max can’t touch Logan without killing him’ thing?  I can only assume they were hoping for a thrid series to sort it all out.  Or that they are cynical and loveless fools.  I really am a hopeless romantic so I like it when the lead girl and the lead boy actually GET IT ON at some point.

I have also got myself a new crush – fairly inevitable when I watch a TV show with a good looking man – Michael Weatherly.  He played Logan in Dark Angel and now stars in NCIS.  Naturally, this means I have started watching this.  In fact, I am watching two different seasons since it is being shown on FX and Five.  You gotta love Sky +!  I really like me a detective type show and this one is pretty cool.  The investigations are quirky, the characters’ chemistry really works and, well, Michael Weatherly is in it, like I said.  His character, Tony Dinozzo, is either a loveable rogue or complete misogynist.  Since MW is so cute, I am going with loveable rogue.  Because I have no shame.

I have also just purchased Angel Season 2  boxset and the Firefly series.  I am totally in love with Joss Whedon.  I have never really watched Firefly – I gave it a shot a while back but after watching (and liking) Serenity, I am looking forward to seeing the whole series.

In other Whedon news, I am just about to watch the final episode of Buffy for the gagillionth time.   I have also subscribed to the new Buffy Season 8 comic, written by Joss, which makes me officially a bone fide Buffy-nerd.  The comic is fantastic – great art work and and dialogue.  The Whedon touch makes it very authentic.  The comic is a ‘what happened next’ for all the die-hard fans who have suffered a great loss since the series finished: Dawn’s a giant!  Xander’s a Watcher!  Amy is evil!  Warren is ‘alive’ (sans skin)!

Another new programme I have discovered is What About Brian.  I watched an episode mid-season and noticed that Jabrams (JJ Abrams of Alias and Lost fame) is the executive producer.  I was not disappointed.  Perfect light entertainment.

I was starting to worry I wasn’t going to have anything to watch after the season finales of ER, Ugly Betty, Lost, and 24 but what with all this viewing and Big Brother 8 (I know, I know but I can’t help it), it looks like I will survive after all!
